Kathmandu Metropolitan City bans begging in public places

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has banned begging in public places in the capital. The city government issued a public notice on Friday stating that the decision would be implemented in the next 10 days and if anyone was found begging in a public place, legal action would be taken. The notice states that children cannot be used for begging. The city government assures the stakeholders that it will properly manage the helpless people found on the streets with the help of human service ashram, humanitarian NGO. However, the notice does not prohibit monks, nuns and others from begging from house to house for religious purposes.
